Recently, Luka Dončić announced that he is developing as a person and as a player, and therefore wants to have full control over his own brand and make independent decisions about future business steps. Furthermore, due to his numerous successes, he has partnered with the Jordan brand. This has made it possible to create a new logo that will be placed on products associated with Luka Dončić.
However, regardless of the above circumstances, the starting point for achieving his goals and business independence is primarily taking over the intellectual property rights to the trademark “LUKA DONCIC 7” from his mother, Mirjam Poterbin. Interestingly, the basketball player’s mother does not want to agree to transfer the trademark to her son. As it turns out, Luka Doncic wanted to resolve the family matter amicably, but Mirjam Poterbin did not express a willingness to do so. The player, in turn, wanting to cancel the disputed trademark, must first obtain his mother’s consent, which also blocks his further actions. In the meantime, the Slovenian player also tried to register another trademark, which would be limited only to his first name and last name, but here too, the American patent office initially rejected his application.
All these circumstances have led Luka Doncic to seek legal action. How will the case unfold? Only time will tell, but given that the parties in the dispute are mother and son, an amicable settlement is very likely.
