After several years, the protective rights to the SOPHIA trademark were acquired by the company Scorpios. Given that the legal disputes, which lasted for almost 5 years, did not reach a resolution by 2019, the company decided to change its strategy regarding the protection of the popular wine’s name and proceed with an amicable settlement of the disputes. As a result, Scorpios entered into agreements with distributors in the alcohol industry, including Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits, Eurocash, and Ambra.
The effects of this resolution are positive not only for the current owner of the SOPHIA trademark but also for consumers, as counterfeit products, i.e., wines using the disputed trademark, have disappeared from the market. Currently, the company can focus solely on the further development of the trademark.
