The idea of the Canarchy brewery did not appeal to the Guns N’ Roses band. According to the band members, namely Slash, Duff McKagan, and Axl Rose, the r-producing company blatantly violates the trademark rights, the subject of which is the band’s name. At the same time, the band clearly stated that it does not consent to Canarchy using any designation similar to the band’s original name. In response to the band’s position, the company indicated that the r with the disputed name would be withdrawn from the market, but in 2020. As a result, on May 9, 2019, the Guns N’ Roses band took legal action to protect its trademark rights, as well as to obtain compensation for the damages caused.
Interestingly, court documents reveal that Canarchy also sought to register the disputed name as a trademark. The process has not yet begun, but the information obtained suggests that the parties involved are seeking an amicable resolution to the dispute. How will this legal battle end? We will probably find out soon, but if Canarchy and Guns N’ Roses fail to reach an agreement, the case will certainly be prolonged.
Interestingly, collaborations between musical bands and breweries are quite common. Examples include bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden. However, in these cases, the product released on the market was the result of collaboration between all parties involved.
