As it turns out, according to Wardęga, the identical graphic depicting an owl is the work of a well-known French artist, DFT. Interestingly, this is not some anonymous creator, as he has collaborated with brands such as Adidas, Apple, and Nike. And indeed, comparing the Wersow logo with DFT’s work, one can see that the owl image is identical. As the YouTuber pointed out, the French artist’s logo appeared in the media as early as 2017, more than a year before Wersow used the graphic. However, we should not judge the young artist, as she may have purchased a license for DFT’s graphic and is now using the mark legally, but in this case, we should wait for an official response from her. Interestingly, Sylwester Wardęga himself stated under his video that he contacted the French artist personally in April 2021 and received information that he had never sold a license for his graphic depicting an owl.
The whole commotion arose at an unfortunate moment for Ekipa, as just a few days earlier, they announced that they would be taking action against those who illegally infringe on their trademark “Ekipa” and sell various products bearing that mark, especially clothing.
How the entire situation regarding Wersow’s logo will unfold remains to be seen, but it will certainly become clear in the near future, as Wardęga himself, by publishing his video online, gave it considerable publicity, and it is difficult to ignore this. Unfortunately, until we receive official responses from the artists, we cannot determine how the situation actually looks and what the consequences of this commotion will be.
