Recently, the German corporation decided to take a rather radical and surprising step – after 23 years, it will change the famous BMW logo, which will coincide with the premiere of the BMW Concept i4 car. As expected, this move has resonated widely among car enthusiasts and sparked considerable controversy. This is because the very distinctive logo is associated with elegance and classicism, and the change is, in a way, a departure from these associations.
However, such a move is certainly not aimed solely at attracting new customers, but also relates to the widespread use of the current BMW logo on various types of counterfeit products. In relation to the German company’s cars, there is a huge number of counterfeit car parts, gadgets, or clothing on the market, so the new trademark will certainly make life more difficult for those involved in introducing such unofficial products to the market. How? Well, the new logo is characterized not only by even greater minimalism but also by transparency, which is supposed to be very difficult to copy in the case of such products.
Another goal of the German manufacturer was to adapt the brand’s logo to current standards, i.e., to use a flat design, but also to stand out from other brands, which is to be achieved through a different look of the logo on different models of the BMW brand. How will this difference manifest itself? It is primarily about the aforementioned transparency, which will make the logo look different on various types of paint colors, e.g., on red and black paint, the new trademark will only be similar in terms of the center, i.e., the circle with alternating blue and white colors.
Will the change of the logo be received positively and will it actually reduce the number of counterfeit products? Time will tell, but for now, the number of people supporting the change of the trademark is similar to the number of people criticizing such a move.
